MCS lawyers Christopher Morley and Eric Tang were invited to speak at a PILnet pro bono workshop meeting on 25th May 2016. Speaking with Boase Cohen & Collins partner Colin Cohen, Chris and Eric addressed a large gathering of NGOs solicitors and barristers interested in pro bono criminal work. The talk covered arrests, searches, detention, interviews, charging, court procedures and juveniles. The workshop, held at the offices of law firm Ropes & Gray in Exchange Square, Central, attracted a range of NGOs including Amnesty International, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, PathFinders, Caritas Hong Kong and Christian Action.
After the event Julie Cheng, Senior Legal Officer at PILnet said: “We were very pleased with the outstanding turnout and it was great to see so many pro-bono minded lawyers in attendance. We hope some of them are now in a better position to assist NGOs on criminal justice issues. We’ve received some excellent feedback and have received requests for a Part II for a deeper dive on the same topic.”
